Simultaneous interpreting is mainly used during conferences or on TV. The interpreter is usually in a booth (or at least isolated) and translates while the speaker talks, so that the public can listen to the speech in real time, in a language they understand.

Consecutive interpreting is also mainly used during conferences, on TV and during ceremonies such as weddings. It is often paired with whispered interpreting. The interpreter is usually next to the speaker and translates the speech chunk by chunk while the speaker pauses. Speakers should aim to speak for no longer than five minutes at a time, during which the interpreter takes notes.
Liaison interpreting

Liaison interpreting is usually used during business negotiations or community settings. The two (or more) speakers involved speak in short turns and the interpreter translates after they pause. Depending on the length of each turn, the interpreter may also take notes.

Whispered interpreting is mainly used during conferences when one or two guests don't speak the language in which the conference is being held. The interpreter sits next to or behind them and translates while the speaker talks, so that they can listen to the speech in a language they understand in real time.
Remote interpreting
Simultaneous, consecutive or liaison interpreting
Simultaneous, consecutive and liaison interpreting can also be performed remotely for online events. This requires the use of specific platforms or functions. Remote interpreting has seen an increase in popularity since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Live subtitling
Italian and English
​Live subtitling can be used during events such as conferences and live TV shows, where written captions are needed in real time. These can be in the same language the event is being held in, or in a different language, and special software is needed. Dragon NaturallySpeaking is the software I have trained in.
